Portugal’s Vinho Verde region is located in the far northwest corner of the country.  Vinho Verde translates to “young wine”.  The term doesn’t refer to a specific grape variety, but rather to wines that are released three to six months after the grapes are harvested.  The wines are typically consumed soon after bottling.

Three reasons to love Vinho Verde wines:

1)   The whites are approachable and refreshing.

2)   The reds are fragrant, lush and flavourful.

3)   They offer incredible value!

Three wines from this region that are perfect for pairing with summer meals:

Summery fresh green apple and lime flavours, in a straightforward, approachable style.  Pair it with shrimp salads or vegetable curries.

Aromatic citrus, floral and mineral notes greet you, with more pronounced lime on the zippy palate.  Super crisp on the finish.  Pair with Tuna tartare, grilled chicken, and leisurely outdoor lunches.

Fragrant and lush, this red wine shows dark berry and sweet spice in a velvety texture.  Pair with smoky barbeque ribs, chorizo sausages, and grilled portobello mushrooms.
