97 pts. Review: Alvear Pedro Ximenez De Añada 2014

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

Montilla-Moriles D.O.P., Spain

Alvear Pedro Ximemez De Añada 2014

A taste of #Andalusian sunshine in your glass! Made from 100% Pedro Ximenez grapes which have been dried in the sunshine on grass mats, then aged in traditional earthenware jars, or "tinajas" for at least 12 mos. This wine, although like Sherry in style, is called #Montilla, (as in the District of Origin itself). This distinguishes it from the Sherry wines made in the neighbouring coastal district of Jerez.

A beautiful amber colour, with rich aromas of raisins, dates, apricots and orange zest. The palate is unctuous and raisiny, with flavours of dried fruit, orange rind and hints of rosemary honey. Extremely satiny and luxurious - think liquid velvet.

Robert Parker gave the 2011 #Anada 100 pts. Serve at 6-8 C, with Creme Brulee and crushed nuts, or simply on its own, because with a glass of this, you don't need dessert. You could cellar this til 2025. But life is short! Why wait?
