The 2020 holiday season is here, this year with some differences. Although we can't attend as many parties and gatherings as usual, this year it's especially important to find ways to make celebrations at home happy. And we still need gift ideas, too! This Vintage Port makes an excellent gift for a friend with a wine cellar, or a luxurious indulgence for yourself. We deserve that this year more than ever.
This fullbodied Vintage Port was made using grapes from a single vineyard located in the
heart of the Douro Valley, from vines averaging over 40 years. The rich colour is opaque violet and the glass offers aromas of ripe blueberries, fig compote, wild roses, licorice and oak. Layer upon layer of flavours ripple through the concentrated palate - raisinated fruit, blueberries, fig compote, raspberries, licorice, fennel and dark chocolate - perfectly balanced in a satiny mouthfeel with silky polished tannins. The elegant lingering finish is silky and rich.
This Port was made in the traditional method, with foot-trodden grapes in stone lagares(tanks). 2015 was the best vintage of the decade and the grapes were harvested during ideal conditions. Quinta Vale D. Maria was named Best Producer 2015 by two critics: Revista de Vinhos and W. Anibal Coutinho. This Port has excellent aging potential, if you can wait! It would make an mouthwatering pairing with creamy Gorgonzola cheese, a dish of macadamia nuts, or for total decadence, dark chocolate. An exceptional gift for a winelover!
