Try This with Chocolate! Carmen Reserva 1850 Premier Carménère 2019

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

Valle de Colchagua, Chile

What a find! Thinking I would pick up a budget-friendly wine for a week night, I took this home and discovered a versatile and super tasty dry red wine.

This aromatic, mediumbodied wine hails from Chile's oldest winery, founded in 1850. Although Carmenère is indigenous to France, because of Chile's particularly long growing season, it grows extremely well there. It's a pretty deep ruby colour with lots going on in the glass; notes of dark berries, prunes, mocha, toast, nuts and honey. In a word, delicious! It has lively acidity and lots of juicy flavour right through to the finish.

It would pair well with spicy sausages, in case you're firing up the barbeque this weekend and it would equally well suit steak or leg of lamb. I "just happened" to have some dark chocolate on hand and discovered that this paired very well too.

Extra dry 13% LCBO#169052 $12.45
